The Third Spectrum
The eight stories brought together here by Kingsley Amis and Robert Conquest in this their third anthology of science fiction, possess a theme in common. Ideas in one story echo or extend those in another, and their total effect is to exalt the importance of human beings over machines, of men over robots.
The range here is wide, from the Pacific island of Theodore Sturgeon's extraordinary "Killdozer!" to the Jupiter of Poul Anderson's brilliantly imagined "Call Me Joe."
Among the other authors present in this collection are Arthur C. Clarke, Murray Leinster, J. G. Ballard, Alfred Bester, Mark Rose and Peter Phillips.

Spectrum III:
"This is Amis' and Conquest's third anthology and may well be the best ... in this anthology is "Killdozer", by Theodore Sturgeon, a top name in the field and a remarkably good writer. It is the tale of a bulldozer that suddenly gains a mind of its own and runs amok ... This anthology will make you do one thing at least. It will send you out to buy Spectrum and Spectrum 2, the two previous anthologies..."
